Energy and Exergy Analyses of a PWR-Type Nuclear Power Plant Coupled with an ME-TVC-MED Desalination System

Electricity–water cogeneration power plants are an important tool for advancing sustainable water treatment technologies because they provide a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution meeting the energy needs of communities. By integrating production, these can reduce carbon emissions help mitigate impact climate change. This work deals with exergy analysis plant electrical generation desalination using real operational data. The side is pressurized reactor (PWR) nuclear (NPP), while multi-effect distillation (MED) system thermo-vapor compressor (TVC) coupled conventional (ME-TVC-MED). A mathematical model was implemented in MATLAB software validated through comparison previously published research. carried out based on second law thermodynamics to evaluate irreversibility subsystems. In this study, components sub-systems were analyzed separately identify quantify component that has high loss exergy. According analyses, highest source occurs core 50% total destruction. However, turbines, steam generators, condensers also contribute loss. Further, thermodynamic efficiency obtained as 35.38%, which more effective than other systems. ME-TVC-MED unit, main sources losses located evaporators thermo-compressor (about 36%, respectively). Moreover, exergetic unit found be low at 6.43%, indicating degree technical inefficiency process. Therefore, many opportunities exist improve performance system.
